Orozco: Man of Fire
Directed by Laurie Coyle and Rick Tejada-Flores. PBS’ American Masters.
All of the elements came together in this film: Vicente Franco's beautiful cinematography, with swooping crane shots capture the magisterial quality of Orozco’s murals; his fellow artists speak of his grim view of the world and his mordant humor; and the voices of Anjelica Huston and the great Mexican actor Damián Alcázar bring to life Orozco’s earlier, smaller scale work—easel paintings, drawings, and cartoons, played against the tableau of the Mexican Revolution, highlighing their irony—and tragedy.
