I have been editing documentaries most of my life.  My first job as an assistant editor was on an underfunded film, and I was paid in room and board. I was smitten, and am fortunate to have been mentored by great editors from New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, which has enabled me to make a living, help raise a family, and mentor emerging editors, some of whom are now producing and editing significant work.

I still believe in the power of film to affect hearts and minds. For nearly 40 years, I’ve produced, directed, and edited docs that are important to me.  I co-edited the Oscar-nominated Regret To Inform, a film the New York Times described as “unforgettable … exquisitely filmed, edited and scored.”  My work has screened on PBS’ American Masters, POV, Independent Lens, Frontline, Voces, on HBO, Showtime, Al-Jazeera, and in television and film festivals worldwide. I edit in English and Spanish.

I bring a producer’s sensibility to my editing work, and am comfortable advising producers on future shoots and on the use of animation, graphics, music, narration, and sound design. I always strive to complete a show on time and within budget, and I have experience in post-production supervision. I can create workflows to deal with multiple formats and move a film from picture lock to final mix and layback.

I’ve collaborated with dancer/performance artist Nina Wise; solo theater performer, Charlie Varon; Academy Award-winning filmmakers, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman; artist/animators Dee Hibbert-Jones and Nomi Talisman, and Academy Award-winning sound designer, Richard Beggs, among others.
