Aung San Suu Kyi inspires, and her resistance to the Burmese military regime was deeply rooted in her Buddhist practice. When telling this story of her harassment and return to house arrest, I didn’t want a literal illustration of violence and injustice—I wanted to experience the quiet, lonely desperation of her situation.
